December in the Bookshop
Hello!
Christmas is a very special time at Hartmanns Books, with colourful lights on the High Street, decorations up in the shop, and plenty of festive cheer and seasonal music to get you in the mood. Whoever you might be buying gifts for, we're sure to be able to help, with our wide range of fiction, non-fiction, and children's books, as well as toys, games and puzzles.
And as we prepare for our second Christmas here in Portishead, we want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who's supported us this year. We love being part of such a friendly and well-read community!
Books in Store for Christmas
Booker Prize Winner
The winner of this year's Booker Prize was Flesh by David Szalay. In this captivating new novel about the forces that make and break our lives, one man’s life takes him from a modest apartment in Hungary to the elite society of London.
Hailed by critics as the must-read novel of the year, we're lucky to have a handful of copies in stock, so if you want to avoid missing out, pop down and collect one as soon as you can!
Book Club
Our book club usually meets in the shop at 6.30pm on the last Wednesday of each month. However, as it's December, we went out last night for a Christmas meal at the Royal Hotel instead, and a great time was had by all!
If you'd like to join us at our next meeting in January, the book we'll be discussing is Andrew Miller's Booker-nominated The Land in Winter.
We're a friendly bunch, there's usually a good crowd, and all are welcome, so feel free to turn up on the 28th January and enjoy chatting over coffee with other local book lovers.

Working in a bookshop means we have a huge choice of books to sample. Right now, our staff are reading:

While you're browsing our shelves, why not treat yourself to tasty hot drink at a very reasonable price? We have a variety of teas and a handmade Italian cappuccino machine, and we can prepare you any of the following to drink in or take away:
